Shannon– Pelvic Pain After Cesarean Delivery

I want to celebrate my client Shannon’s win this week!

When Shannon came in, she told me that her appointment was perfectly timed, because she was about to start her period, and the monthly back pain had already begun. Ever since her cesarean births, she had consistent, terrible back and pelvic pain right before and during her period.

It was a great opportunity for me, because I hoped to be able to find what was specifically contributing to the pain, structurally. On the table, I felt into the scars and adhesions around her pelvis, noting where there was pulling on the uterus. Releasing some of these helped a bit, but Shannon told me that she especially had pain in her sacrum– the triangular bone at the base of her spine that the hip bones connect to. I tested to see if relieving tension on the ligaments that connect the uterus to the sacrum helped, and it did! So I did gentle, full release on both sacro-uterine ligaments, and her back pain eased almost completely. This was a “winning” moment, for sure!

I checked back in with her several days later to see if her menstrual pain had been different since the treatment, and this is what Shannon reported to me:

“Hi Ariana!! I started my period yesterday. My back pain was still slightly present on Wednesday but only mild, which was a huge improvement. Yesterday my front cramps were only noticeable for half of the morning and then *all of the pain was gone.* Normally I am in pain just standing, but I really felt that after our visit it was greatly improved.

I wish I would have known sooner that the issues I was having could be helped. I talked to my doctor about this almost a year ago and she seemed to think it was just a normal thing that occurs when your uterus has undergone a large change like mine. I am so thankful to have your insight and differing opinion.”

One of the best parts of my job is telling someone that they can actually expect to feel and function better– that in most cases, they are NOT just stuck with the pain and problems they have been enduring! Celebrating with my clients is the best feeling, and we want you to know that YOU can get help, too!
